2018 Hyundai Sonata Revealed at NY Auto Show

The debut of the upcoming 2018 Hyundai Sonata at April’s New York Auto Show was nothing short of exhilarating—at least as far as auto shows go. With a flashy exterior, luxe cabin, and a sprinkling of fresh additions, it’s destined to raise Hyundai’s prestige to a whole new level. Here’s what you’ll find on the 2018 Sonata, which should be available for sale later this year at Jim Hudson Hyundai, your trusted Hyundai dealership near Rock Hill, SC.

New Looks, Same Thrills

Swinging back through the pendulum of time, it’s clear that Hyundai has never rested on its laurels when building its vehicles—and the 2018 Sonata is no exception.

The front-end is a robust addition that emphasizes the Sonata’s luxury-car genes by taking cues from the Genesis lineup. A mesh or horizontal grille draws attention to the slanted “H” icon, while LED daytime running lights bracket everything into place. The Sonata’s newer and wider frame makes a clear statement: “I’m athletic, and you’ll like it.” With the Sport and 2.0L turbo trims, glossy black window trim and new diffusers complete the package.

Hyundai has stated that handling in the ’18 Sonata should be just as excellent, if not more so, than previous models. They’ve added an enhanced rear suspension (thick trailing arms and sturdy bushings), improved the stiffness of the torsion bar, and recalibrated the steering for better control. In doing so, Hyundai engineers have given the Sonata the ability to haul more weight and handle even tighter turns.

At the top of the 2018 Sonata lineup will be a turbo-4 engine that makes up to 245 horsepower, though most other trims get the 2.4L 4-cylinder that churns out 185hp. A brand-new 8-speed automatic also ups the sedan’s appeal.

Owners will have tons of new tech to play around with, too, which makes the Sonata one of the best low-priced sedans in its class. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, additional USB ports, and wireless charging stations should be included in most if not all models. The birds-eye-view camera system adds a new level of sophistication to this already-impressive vehicle, as do safety systems like brake assist, rear cross-traffic alerts, blind-spot warnings, and more.
