2012 Sonata

The 2012 Hyundai Sonata at Jim Hudson Hyundai, Columbia, SC

Feel free to judge it by the way it looks.

The first thing you’ll notice is the styling. Raked roofline, shark-fin antenna, sculpted grille—the Sonata has taken the lead in a new wave of Hyundai design called “Fluidic Sculpture”. The Sonata gets its inspiration from the fluid energy of all works of nature. It translates the strong yet sophisticated quality of the design of this car. The California influence is evident in its forward-thinking style, fusing beauty, performance and efficiency in one complete package.

Feel at home on the road.

Find a gas station, track vehicle maintenance and send voice-to-text messages without leaving the driver’s seat, thanks to Blue Link™. Enjoy space and comfort for yourself and four friends inside. Listen to all your favorite artists through the AM/FM/XM®/CD/MP3 Audio System. Plus, find eight ways to perfect comfort with the power-adjustable driver seat with power lumbar support.

Interior Volume

The Sonata has more interior volume and cargo space than the Toyota Camry. More head room, more leg room in front, and thanks to specially designed recessed hinges, even a larger trunk. In other words: plenty of room for five, plus luggage.  As for Audio volume, the AM/FM/XM®/CD/MP3 Audio System comes with 6 speakers and includes a subwoofer with an external amp. It also comes with XM Satellite Radio for the best commercial-free radio and a complimentary three-month subscription on us. Plus the built-in iPod®/USB and auxiliary jacks let you access your iPod® through the audio controls, display track and artist information, even charge it as it plays.  If you must talk while driving, please do it with your hands on the wheel. The Sonata’s standard Bluetooth technology with phonebook transfer gives you hands-free access to your phone with a very handy voice recognition control.

Awarded a ‘Top Safety Pick’ by the IIHS.

Thanks to airbags galore, 4-wheel ABS brakes, front and rear crumple zones, and a whole host of modern safety technologies, the Sonata received a 2011 ‘Top Pick’ award from the IIHS. And with a name like the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, you can bet they take their testing very seriously.  Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control System, Anti-Lock Braking System, Brake Assist, and Electronic Brake-Force Distribution are all standard.

Dynamic Duo

Sonata engineers decided that instead of creating a 4-cylinder and a 6-cylinder option like the competition, they would simply get more power out of a better, fuel-efficient 4-cylinder engine. The result is two of the most revolutionary engines available.  The Sonata’s 2.4L Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine is the most powerful naturally aspirated 4-cylinder in its class, delivering up to 200 horsepower and 186 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2.4L also gets 35 MPG highway, another number that’s unsurpassed in its class. This allows it to meet Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) standards, and in some states, a version even qualifies for Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) status.

The Sonata 2.0T is a game-changer. This 4-cylinder twin-scroll turbo pumps out 274 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque—more than the V6 Camry, Accord and Altima. And at 34 highway MPG, blows them all away on fuel economy as well. Why spring for an expensive, less-economical V6 when you can get more power and better MPG with the 2.0T?
